Whether you’re a sophomore or junior starting the college visits and selection or a senior knee deep in college applications, college fairs are a great way to engage with admissions reps from our area, demonstrate interest and learn more about the schools. A few tips!

Advance Planning

  • Register ahead of time when possible.
  • Consult the list of attending colleges before you go; create a target list for connection.
  • Create a list of questions to ask the representative.
  • Print out contact stickers to save time when completing contact cards for more information. You want the college to know you were there! By the way, be certain your email address is appropriate. Now is a great time to create a new email you use for engaging with colleges.

Fair Day

  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Consult the fair map to hit the colleges you are targeting. Once you’ve talked to them, learn something from other colleges.
  • Be ready to talk, engage and ask questions.
  • Gather materials and sort later at home.
  • Be certain to let them know you were there especially for a college that tracks demonstrated interest.

  • Go through what you gathered and throw out materials from schools that really don’t interest you or can’t get you to your future flourish (best major for your future career!).
  • For the schools which pique your interest, start gathering more information on their website and other third party places with data. Our College Selection Seminar or private college advising will equip you for this if you are at a loss where to look.
  • If you’ve not yet visited colleges, next look at the calendar and start planning some visits.
